8 Survival Uses for Powdered Milk

powdered milkAlright, I’ll be honest…I was super wary of powdered milk for years before I actually started using it for survival. After all, milk is supposed to be liquid, right? Needless to say, I was skeptical.

However, I’ve come to realize that it’s actually extremely useful and has tons of uses besides just for drinking. In fact, I’d say it’s one of the foods every prepper should have in their survival pantry.

You’ll be super surprised at its versatility too once you read these…

8 Survival Uses for Powdered Milk

1 – To Barter With

Few preppers consider the importance of powdered milk when it comes to bartering. However, if the world is in crisis, millions will flock to grocery stores to grab the necessities…including milk.

Not only does it provide a powerful punch of protein and calcium, but it’s also used in tons of commonly used foods like scrambled eggs, oatmealcereal, and coffee. It also provides valuable sustenance to keep your bones strong and your strength up.

Powdered milk is going to be a precious commodity in a crisis due to its long-term storage life and versatility. And, since it can be used in most (if not all) of the same recipes as liquid milk, everyone’s going to want to get their hands on it.

Stock up on it now so you can trade it for food, ammo and supplies later.

2 – To Get Strong

Milk has become practically famous for its calcium and protein levels. Ever since we were kids our parents told us to drink up – and it’s no different as adults.

Note: Speaking of childhood, remember how much we all loved chocolate milk growing up? I just found a delicious chocolate version you’re going to love! Check it out here!

Not only does powdered milk provide you excellent sustenance, but it keeps your bones strong as well. It’s also super versatile and can be added to a ton of different meals and drinks.

In a survival situation, when you’re trekking around and using up a lot of your strength, you’ll be happy you brought it along to keep you full and focused.

3 – To Create New Dishes

Powdered milk is great on its own, but it can also be substituted for real milk in a ton of different dishes. Just add cold water and mix well, and you’ve got a great milk substitute for common survival foods like butter and oatmeal.

You can use powdered milk to thicken up soups, and to help your biscuits and bread become firmer and brown quicker. You can also sprinkle ¼ cup of it into the pot as you boil corn on the cob to make the kernels sweeter and plumper than ever before.

Plus, a little sweetener goes a long way – add a little sugar to boost its flavor in your coffee and shakes.

4 – Remove Ink Stains From Clothes

That’s right – when that pen breaks and the ink gets all over your clothes, you can use powdered milk to get it out.

Simply make enough of it to fill a large mixing bowl, and then put the article of clothing in it to soak overnight. Wash the garment with laundry soap the next day and it’ll be good as new.

5 – To Make Glue

If you make powdered milk and combine it with baking soda and white vinegar, you can create your own homemade glue! Crazy, I know.

Here’s a video explaining the process:

6 – As Plant Fertilizer

We talked about how milk (both in powdered and liquid form) is rich in calcium. Well, turns out it’s also an important nutrient for plants, and will help them grow up big and strong as well.

Sprinkle ¼ cup of it onto your plant soil – the milk’s calcium will actually help fertilize the plant! This is especially great for tomato plants.

7 – Clean Dirty Hands

If you don’t have soap and water, powdered milk is a surprisingly good substitute to help you clean off those dirty hands. Prepare it with some lemon juice to cut through the grease and make your hands soft and smooth.

8 – DIY Shaving Cream

I’ll be honest, this one isn’t as effective as actual shaving cream;  however, desperate times call for desperate measures.

You can combine powdered milk with just enough water to make it thick and creamy; then lather it on your skin. The milk will soften your skin, as well as provide a barrier between it and the razor.

Note: If you find yourself needing a shave while you’re bugging out, then that probably means you’re also needing to wash your hair, brush your teeth and put on deodorant, too. You can do all that and more with our cool Male and Female specific hygiene kits:

BONUS USE #1 – Ease A Sunburn

This is a hugely important one when you’re bugging out and have been in the sun all day. To relieve that painful sunburn, just mix powdered milk with a little water (so it’s nice and creamy) and lather it on the burn to provide you some much needed relief.

BONUS USE #2 – Treat Bug Bites

You can get eaten alive by mosquitos when you’re “bugging” out – however, with powdered milk by your side, you can get some relief from the itching.

Make a paste with it, and add a dash of salt. This treatment will soften your skin and go to work relieving the itchiness and redness caused by the bites.

As you can see, powdered milk is incredibly useful in a survival situation. However, not all types are created equally – some aren’t near as tasty, others aren’t nearly as good quality, and most of them have lots of chemicals and preservatives to keep production costs down.

Plus, lots of the store-bought brands are way too expensive for what you get, and don’t store for very long. So how do you choose?

I’ll make it easy for you – check out Legacy’s 160 serving powdered milk bucket. This is the best quality brand I’ve seen on the market.

Not only is it super healthy for you (no artificial flavors, chemical preservatives or genetically modified anything), but it’s also got a super long shelf-life of up to 25 years.

Plus, it contains 160 full servings of the powder, all contained in a thick, high-quality bucket for easy and convenient long-term storage.

The most important thing, though (for me at least) is the taste. The Legacy brand is consistently ranked as the best tasting survival food on the market, guaranteeing your milk will be delicious and nutritious every single time.
