This isn’t such a rare situation to be in, either – it seems like every time you turn on the news, there’s another story of someone that’s been killed by a gunshot or stab wound.

However, even though the media has a tendency of hyping things up, the unfortunate reality is that these types of situations happen every day.

Knowing how to survive a gunshot wound is a crucial skill to have in a survival situation. Because of that, it’s your responsibility to prepare yourself for if that moment comes.

These trauma skills could save your life, as well as the life of a friend or a stranger.

Thankfully, we’ve got some easy tips to help you with how to pack a wound and how to do it right the first time.

How To Stop Bleeding

1 – Put On Gloves:

Safety first – it is critical to first put on gloves to protect yourself from any bacteria or disease that may be on the bleeding site.

2 – Identify The Source

Identify where the bleeding is coming from with your finger. Apply direct pressure.

3 – Pack The Wound

Grab your gauze and maintain pressure on the wound. Pack as much gauze as you need on/around the wound to stop the bleeding. Apply this pressure as tightly and as quickly as possible.

4 – Dress The Wound

When you’re sure you have covered all wounds with gauze and pressure, dress the wound(s) with a pressure dressing. Tape the dressing down to maintain constant pressure.

5 – Call For Help

These steps do NOT take the place of calling for professional medical attention. Call 911 and/or take the victim to the hospital immediately to prevent further injury and complications.
