And the best part is they would really help protect you in most SHTF situations (while still being really cool to live in).
Whether it’s bugging in or bugging out, it seems as though every prepper has a plan for when SHTF. However, once you take a look at this list, you might start to think differently about yours.
8 Of The Craziest Survival Shelters You’ve Ever Seen
1 – The Log Cabin
This log cabin is a bit different than what you might imagine. Designed by a Dutch performer, the house is deceiving to the eye, as it looks like a humongous stack of logs.
However, as you get closer, you begin to see lines through the wood…which turn out to be windows. Turns out the wood actually covers plastic and the house’s steel frame, giving off the “log” appearance.
Although its owner is currently using it as a recording space, you could easily turn it into a cabin to bug in. Take a look:
2 – The Safe House
This one is crazy – and it’s the first building of its kind ever created (it even has a drawbridge!). They call it “The Safe House.” Rather than pictures, I thought I’d show you this cool video instead (no need for speakers on this one – the subtitles say it all):
3 – The Colorado Bunker
This is the one you go to in order to survive a nuclear bomb (seriously). It’s located in a desert town in Colorado, so no neighbors around to worry about.
Its reinforced concrete and steel walls can withstand a nuclear explosion, and it’s got four individual power systems, as well as a heavy-duty water filtration system.
Plus, it’s got its own helicopter pad. The best part, though, is this disaster-proof, nuclear-rated house is on the market…for $11.5 million. You want it?
4 – The Updated Noah’s Ark
A man living in China decided to build his own version of “Noah’s Ark,” in fear the world would be engulfed in a giant flood (much like in Biblical times).
So he did what any good prepper would do, and spent his life’s savings ($160,000) on the creation of this boat. The ship weighs about 80 tons, and was made from a combination of timber and steel.
5 – The Corrugated Pipe Bunker
If $11.5 million sounded too high for that Colorado Bunker (#3), this option might sound better – an underground, corrugated pipe bunker for $60,000. It’s built to be placed 20 ft. under the ground, so it’ll help save you from tornadoes and other disasters.
Note: We can help you and your significant other outlast a severe weather situation too, with our Severe Weather 2-Person Emergency Kit.
qPlus, it’s got all the normal comforts of home, like bunk-beds, low voltage lighting, kitchen with sink, toilets, outlets, escape hatch and mudroom. However, it’s a bit more upscale than you’d think, boasting surveillance cameras, stationary bike, flatscreen TV, DVD player, and solar panels.
6 – The LA Show Home
You might say, judging by the boxes on the picture below, that the guy who built this knew what he was doing. Well, turns out he’s also the founder of SAFE, a huge security firm (go figure).
This disaster-proof shelter is used as a show home for clients, and it doesn’t disappoint due to its earthquake-proof frame, biometric recognition sensors on the entryways (so no keys to steal), and projectile-proof panic suite.
7 – The Doomsday Castle
You might be thinking this one looks like it’s straight out of the Dark Ages…and you’d be on the right track. This incredible fortress was constructed under the belief that the world would plunge into darkness due to a huge EMP (electromagnetic pulse).
Like any castle worth its salt, it’s got a drawbridge, underground shelter, and strong, moveable barriers for entry.
However, its residents are taking the “medieval theme” to the next level by training with weapons such as catapults and crossbows to protect themselves from intruders.
8 – The Luxury Condo
Who says that you can’t “bug in” in luxury? These extravagant living quarters come with all the normal, household amenities, as well as much, much more (think swimming pool, movie theater, and library, just to name a few).
Plus, along with all that you receive the guarantee that you will be safe no matter what type of SHTF. These living spaces are actually deep underground in a missile silo (encapsulated in 9 ft. thick concrete walls), and can withstand anything from terrorist attacks, atomic blasts, and economic collapses to solar flares and pandemics.
You’ll need more than $7 million to compete with the offers, but the place is so luxurious it might just be worth it.
Now you’ll notice that many of these shelters have a backup energy plan – an incredibly crucial element in indoor survival. However, it’s also an element that preppers often miss. The world has gotten so hooked on its electronic devices, that it’s allowed itself to think they’ll always be there.
