There is no question that prepping is something that has become the concern of millions of people all over the world. Being able to be prepared for anything that could happen to you or your family in the future is extremely important and sometimes an item as simple as a knife could mean the difference between life and death.
This is not something that we are saying to sound overly dramatic. There are a large number of people out there who have been able to survive thanks to the use of a knife in a situation that would have been way more difficult, or even deadly, without one.
In this article we are going to talk about 3 types of “survival knives” that you can purchase and we will give you the pros and cons of each one.
The Auto Emergency Knife
This is probably the most overlooked type of knife by preppers but it definitely a must have. It features a folding serrated blade, seat belt cutter, and glass breaker. You can easily cut right through a seat belt, break a window to escape being trapped, and perform a lot of basic survival tasks. The biggest con with this knife is that after you get one you’ll want one for every vehicle you own, as well as some back ups!
The Multi-function Pocket Knife
An absolute bare-bones necessity for any concerned with preparedness. These are extremely popular too because they contain a large number of options. They’re super compact, and most of them come with a can opener, a corkscrew, reamer, manicure blade, scissors, cap lifter, key ring and a small sharp knife. The biggest problem with this type of knife is that all the tools are only good for basic tasks that require minimum force to be applied.
The All-Purpose Survival Knife
The standard survival knife is without a doubt a necessary addition to any peppers stash. The blades typically range between 4 to 6 inches and the overall length is usually about 8 to 10 inches. This is the kind of equipment that you want to be able to carry around if you want to have a good chance at survival in a natural setting. The blade is extremely sharp so it can cut through meat and it could also saw through basically any kind of wood. The only problem with this model is that it takes more space than any of the smaller knives we mentioned above.
There are many different models that you can choose from when it comes to your survival knife. You should always look for one that fits comfortably in your hands and this is going to make it easy for you to handle it properly. We recommend that you use them carefully and we also recommend that you have at least two of each knife. This way you can use them for regular hunting and you can keep the backups for emergency situations that might come at any moment.
Hopefully this information gave you a better idea of some of the options you can choose for your prepping needs. These are all very useful for many purposes and you know you can’t go wrong with any of them.
